about

Voyages Imaginés was an evening of performances that took place at Paris Asian arts museum –aka Musée Guimet– on February 3, 2018, organized by TSUKU BOSHI. The show retraced the travels of French explorer Émile Guimet in South East Asia in the 19th century, with a team of visual artists drawing and painting, and music played according to each visited country. Contributing DJs were asked to remix recordings from the museum's sound archives. I chose sounds and musics of Viêt Nam for my own mix.

Tracks indicated as A1, A5, A6, B4, B5 & B6 are excerpts from Musique Proto-Indochinoise, Moïs des Hauts-Plateaux du Viêt Nam, mono LP published by BAM (Boîte à Musique), ref. LD 326, France, 1955. The mix also includes other sound sources as indicated below:

- Carillon Hydraulique (A5)
- Guimbarde (B5)
- Ancient Folk Song - Ho Nen (Work Song) [Music of Vietnam – Folkways LP, 1965]
- Cinq Vietnamiennes des années 1960 (YouTube)
- Xylophones à 10 et à 15 Bambous (A1)
- Orgue à Bouche (B4)
- Huit Tubes De Bambous Excités Par Claquements De Mains (B6)
- Chant du Garrulaxe de Yersin - Khuou dau den ma xam (YouTube)
- Cithare Sur Tuyau De Bambou (A6)
- Co Kim-Chung Hat – Giot Mu'a Thu [Pluie Automnale] (78rpm, 1963, YouTube)
